hdf4-tools software package provides Hierarchical Data Format 4 library -- runtime package, you can install in your Ubuntu 14.04 LTS (Trusty Tahr) by running the commands given below on the terminal,
$ sudo apt-get update $ sudo apt-get install hdf4-tools
hdf4-tools is installed in your system.
Make ensure the hdf4-tools package were installed using the commands given below,
$ sudo dpkg-query -l | grep hdf4-tools *
You will get with hdf4-tools package name, version, architecture and description in a table
